Ron Kaye is the retired editor of the Los Angeles Daily News who has become a community activist, helping to found the Saving LA Project and the LA Clean Sweep Political Action Committee.  He writes on city issues in Los Angeles and is a frequent speaker at community groups on the need to get informed and involved in the effort to make LA a city of great schools and neighborhoods, a city with a healthy business climate and good jobs.  A graduate of the University of Chicago, he started his journalism career at the Cleveland Plain Dealer in 1964.  He has traveled widely in Asian and Latin America during a career that included stints at the Associated Press and newspapers in Alaska, Washington State, and Australia where he was also a correspondent for Newsweek and the Guardian of London.  He came to Los Angeles in 1980 and worked for the Herald-Examiner before joining the Daily News in 1985.
