Ross Marino, CFP®, ChFC®, has been a financial advisor since 1988. He has operated his own branch since 1996 with the same broker dealer. Teaching is one of Ross’s passions. For years, Ross has taught Retirement Planning and Employee Benefits for the CFP® program at UNC-Wilmington and has conducted over 200 seminars in the eastern United States. In addition to hosting his own radio program, Ross has appeared in more than 200 television segments, and currently hosts a weekly TV segment, “Marino on Money”. Ross was featured in a cover story in On Wall Street magazine, “Pride of the Profession”, which profiled seven financial advisors across the country who have impacted their communities.
Ross’s journey to his success today has not been without significant challenges. In 1997, just thirty days after moving to Wilmington, North Carolina to open a new branch office, he was severely disabled from an injury on a trampoline. Being confined to a home office required that he build a business without networking, driving to see prospects, conducting luncheon meetings, or playing golf. So Ross concluded survival required working smarter and becoming smarter. He earned his CFP® designation, and, along the way, formed his vision to become a 401(k) plan expert and provide memorable client service. In 2001, he was finally able to begin scheduling face-to-face appointments, first meeting with clients at his house while sitting in a recliner, and finally meeting with clients outside his home.
His business continued to grow and by 2004 he was physically able to work a full day. In 2006, Ross built an office building. Within 120 days, Ross had hired four administrative staff members, five financial advisors and subsequently expanded his office from 1,000 square feet to almost 3,000. Success continued and Ross doubled his personal production within two years – allowing him to begin 401(k) Rekon™ and share his tools and strategies to work smarter and become smarter.
