WHAT WEDDING PLANNERS DO AND HOW THEY DIFFER FROM COORDINATORS AND DESIGNERS

A wedding planner determines the client’s vision and completes months of planning, including interviewing and selecting vendors, reviewing contracts, advising on every detail that impacts budget, schedule and look and character of the wedding and supports the client, typically the bride, the groom and the family involved in the planning.

A wedding designer is involved in every aspect of design, such as lighting, flowers and décor, but does not handle timelines, contracts and budgets.  A wedding coordinator usually gets involved a few weeks prior to the event, reviewing all the details and the information assembled by the client in order to serve as the project manager on the day of the wedding.

Wayne talks about his unique experiences and skills that qualify him as one of the premier event planners in Southern California – business degree with emphasis in marketing, human resources expertise, configuration management in aerospace that helped develop his detailed and thorough documentation approach and finally, creating and running a floral design studio in Tarzana.  Now, Wayne is devoted full time to creating stylish and highly personalized life cycle events for his clients.

TAKE MENTAL PICTURES – IT GOES BY TOO FAST!

Wayne talks about his favorite new trends – creating intimate ceremony seating and encircling the bride and groom, using individualized table décor with complementing but different linens and centerpieces, customized deserts in place of the traditional wedding cake and photo-journalistic approach to photography.

Wayne dispels the myth that wedding planners’ allegiance is to their vendors – he talks about his role as a negotiator to make sure that his clients get the best experience and value.  Wayne uses his experience and highly observant nature to pinpoint his clients’ style even before they are able to articulate it.    It’s all about creating a celebration that is reflective of the couple’s style.  Wayne talks about two weddings that he planned for two sisters who were married within weeks of each other, yet had completely different weddings and memories.

Wayne Gurnick: A Creative Destiny—Moment by Moment

Founder and owner of Moments by Wayne Gurnick, Wayne provides wedding and event planning services across the United States. As a personalized full service event planner, the company assists clients with every aspect of their event or celebration—from concept to coordination and execution.  In addition, the company is launching new packaged services for the value-oriented clients, which will provide the safety net and confidence they need to plan their own celebrations.

A native of Los Angeles, Wayne grew up in Hollywood, California, where he apprenticed at the renowned floral studio Crossley’s. He worked on high profile events for such clients as Hugh Heffner of Playboy, Helen Reddy, Danny Kaye, Marlo Thomas and The Hollywood elite.

The first era of Wayne’s career proved an ideal training ground for his management, business, logistics and planning skills. He worked for a national bank as a Human Resources specialist and later became a Configuration Management Specialist at various aerospace companies. In this role, Wayne ensured that the engineering plans followed specific requirements, and that documentation rendered complete and accurate—an excellent way to polish his skills in managing diverse tasks and completing documentation with accuracy and precision.

While advancing in his corporate career, Wayne had other dreams to realize: to own a floral design company. In 1989, he formed Floral Creations by Wayne, a boutique floral design studio. Building the company around what’s most important to his clients—trust that he would take care of their needs and look after their best interests—Wayne delivered the highest quality of products, staff that shared his passion for excellence, and vendors that held his same high standards.

Wayne’s successful, growing business attracted the attention of an investor with an interest in entering the floral design business, leading to the sale of Floral Creations by Wayne in 1997.

Having designed events since 1985, Wayne identified a need for a knowledgeable and reliable source to ease the stress associated with the planning and production of trend-setting weddings and stylish events. The result: The launch of InOvations Event Production in 1998 with the mission to be the trusted source of information in order to simplify the wedding and event planning process. In doing so, clients could concentrate their efforts on more important things like the reason for their celebration and the joy that their family and friends bring them.

In addition to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with emphasis on Marketing from California State University at Northridge, Wayne is  accredited by the American Institute of Floral Designers, a classification attained by only 1,300 professionals worldwide. With this status, Wayne joins the leaders of the floral design industry and expanded his network, forming strong bonds with top-level professionals across the United States and abroad. His work has been featured in television and print media, and his client list includes such top names from companies such as MCA Universal, Disney, Warner Brothers, United Airlines, The Grammy Host Committee, Italian Institute of Culture and City of Hope, among numerous others.
