Fulton County, Georgia, is the central county of the 28 county Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area (the Atlanta Region). Fulton County contains the majority of the city of Atlanta as well as all or most of 14 other cities and a large unincorporated area. Fulton County ’s population, estimated at a little over 1 million, is the most populous of the 159 counties Georgia, and the 39th most populous county in the United States .  Fulton County is a major educational center for the state, and is home to several major universities including Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University , and a number of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including Morehouse College , Spelman College , Morris Brown, and Clark-Atlanta University . Fulton County is governed by a seven-member board of commissioners whose members serve concurrent four year terms. The most recent election was held in November 2006.

Robb Pitts
Commissioner, Fulton County, Georgia
Robb Pitts is the Fulton County Georgia Commissioner representing District 2, which includes the entire County. He was elected to the Fulton County Board of Commissioners in November 2002 and re-elected in 2006.  Commissioner Pitts previously served as a member of the Atlanta City Council for 20 years, chairing the Finance and Community Development committees for several years and was elected president of the Atlanta City Council in 1997. A businessman and former college professor, Commissioner Pitts earned undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate degrees in education, business administration, languages and Latin American Studies at Ohio University, La Academia Hispanomericana, Kent State University and La Universidad Interamericana. He has a master’s degree in business administration from Emory University and studied at Georgia State University. Currently, Commissioner Pitts is a Financial Representative with New England Financial. He was an instructor at Kent State University, Kent, Ohio; visiting professor and guest lecturer at Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio; and assistant professor at Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University) in Atlanta.
