SUPERBOWL 2012 AND A SUPER SUNDAY AT GALPIN FORD

An important decision in regards to every Super Bowl is guessing the winning team and deciding where to go to watch the game.  A year from now, I might forget who won Super Bowl 2012, but I will not forget where I spent it and the enjoyable experience I had.

 A friend mentioned that Galpin Ford was hosting a Super Bowl party and we were invited.  I quickly cancelled all other invites and said, “yes” to the Galpin Ford Super Bowl 2012 party.  When I hear the name Galpin Ford, what comes to mind is excellent service and customer satisfaction.  I knew this event would be a first class event and it did not disappoint.

What motivated me to attend the Super Bowl 2012 party at Galpin Ford was the fact that they were hosting this event to benefit “Miracle Minded Ministries”.   This ministry has a division, “New Friends Homeless Center” which feeds the homeless in Woodland Hills, CA.  The purpose of this Super Bowl party was to thank the supporters and volunteers of this ministry.  Over 100 people showed up for the party.  The food was excellent – thanks to Galpin’s Horseless Carriage restaurant that supplied the delicious sandwiches and finger foods and the atmosphere was festive.  I noticed Ed Asner of “Mary Tyler Moore” was there as well as some other celebrites. I ran into a friend, Tony DeMaio at Galpin who spearheaded this fun Super Bowl party. I like the philosophy of Bert Boeckmann, owner of Galpin Ford. He gives back to society and helps people, which he does often and he does well!  He puts God first, family second, and business third.

I had such a good time at the Galpin Ford Super Bowl 2012 party that I came back for more!  Tony offered to take me on a tour of Galpin Ford a few days later. We started our tour by having lunch at Galpin’s Horseless Carriage restaurant.  I highly recommend the Mustang burger  made by executive chef Geovanni Euceda formerly of the Beverly Hills Hotel.  It is no wonder why Galpin Ford has been the number #1 Ford dealer in the world for the past 22 years!  Look at their excellent service.  Just having a restaurant to relax in while your car is being serviced or while you are waiting to purchase a car is what I call excellent customer service!  After lunch we ventured across the street to Galpin’s Jaguar dealership, which is the #1 Jaguar dealership in the United States.  We stopped at Starbucks to grab a cup of coffee, and yes,  Galpin Jaguar is the only automotive center to have a Starbucks coffee shop.  These people at Galpin sure know how to please their customers.  I saw the sleek 2012 Jaguars on the showroom floor.  Tony took me upstairs to the luxurious Aston Martin showroom.  I felt like I was in a scene from Tom Cruise’s “Mission Impossible”.  We walked through a red tunnel and Tony turned the handle on a heavily vaulted secure metal door, which led us into the super swanky “Aston Martin” showroom.  A gorgeous, exquisite Aston Martin was circulating on a revolving floor against the backdrop of an opulent living room and full bar.  This is the ultimate in customer satisfaction. 

Reality set in, as it was time to leave this palatial setting and get on with our tour.  I’m thoroughly spoiled by what I’ve experienced and seen so far.  I salivated over the 2012 Jaguars and now I could not get the Aston Martin out of my brain.  We drove to one of the lots and I felt like I was swimming in a sea of over 3,000 Fords and Mustangs, which is a huge inventory to have because the demand and need is so great for these cars.  Lastly, we visited the GAS (Galpin Auto Sports) building, which was full of more eye candy of beautiful cars such as Liberace’s vintage Ford with the candelabra still attached to the hood.

The memory of Super Bowl 2012 is behind us. What is memorable and lasting are solid values of trust and loyalty in American companies such as Galpin Ford, where everyone is a winner!

Seton & Associates – Making Non-Profits a Priority

In this interview with Kent Seton of Seton & Associates, listeners discover that Kent didn’t start out his law practice with the intention of representing non-profits. It was only after meeting a reverend from an inner-city organization that he saw how great the need was and that this was an opportunity for him to make a difference by improving the lives of others.

Seton & Associates works with a client base ranging from very small non-profits to large ones. Its clients are very diverse in their sectors of need they address: homelessness, food problem, medical research, child service organizations, museums, schools.

Rules and regulations can be very specific to charities or identical with for-profit corporations. For instance, the rules of employment are the same but there are differences in the rules and regulations for fundraising. Charities are subject to tax-exempt rules so taxing issues need to be understood thoroughly as they apply to the non-profit. States such as California have their own specific rules with respect to the fiduciary duties for the board members and officers.

If each chapter has its own 501c3, it can shield the national non-profit from liability.

HBW – a Unique Middle-Market Financial Services Provider

Tony DeMaio first interviews Barney Hellenbrand – CEO and founder of HBW Advisory Services, LLC. HBW means “Helping Build Wealth.”

HBW is a financial services marketing organization that sells the products of some of the top carriers in the financial services industry. It offers a spectrum of products such as disability income, life insurance, investment products. Its products are designed to help people do the best possible investing with their money.

All of its advisors are independent. HBW is a hybrid, according to Barney, in that it not only provides products to its clients but makes it possible for its advisors to broaden and further build their businesses. He stresses that they are not a multi-level marketing company (MLM) but that advisors are able to build sales forces. Instead of targeting wealthy clients, HBW focuses on middle-income people. By developing a sales force, more of those clients can be served by the advisors and their teams.

Tony next speaks with Charles Reinhold, the President and Chief Compliance Officer of HBW. Charles explains how HBW is client-centered and that the products they offer are designed around the needs of their clients and what the principals of HBW would want themselves. Steve Brevidoro interviews Tony DeMaio, CEO of the Big Media Broadcasting Company, Inc. (BMBC).

Tony has just signed up BMBC to be a sponsor of the 16th Annual Calabasas Wine-Tasting and Silent Auction that is going to be held June 10 at the Calabasas Civic Center Plaza. He explains there are several reasons BMBC sponsors: the opportunity to build relationships through face-to-face contact. Tony likes the relaxed and informal environment of the crowd, which consists not only of Chamber members but also the local community.

Barbara Lazaroff – Wishes for a Mother’s Heart

Barbara Lazaroff is an amazing woman with a seemingly endless amount of energy. In addition to her careers as a restaurateur and designer, she is a philanthropist who has dedicated countless hours to organizations that help battered women or work with at-risk youth, such as Aviva.

Barbara’s latest project is a book co-written with her friend Tricia LaVoice and entitled Wishes for a Mother’s Heart. A combination of poetry, prose and story-telling, it is a book written for the relationships women have with each other as mothers, sisters and daughters. In his interview with Barbara, Tony DeMaio points out that it also provides insight for men into how they might better relate and communicate with the women in their lives.

Barbara is concerned about how women behave and are portrayed in some of the popular media and the lessons being taught to boys and young men who view these shows that glorify cat-fights, abrasiveness and manipulative behavior. The more positive and powerful images of women she would like to emphasize are our abilities to mediate, moderate, share and commuunicate with each other and she suggests that men in business need to learn more of all of those qualities.

Barbara winds down her interview with a timeless quote from Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” Wishes for a Mother’s Heart is an exploration into our lives and feelings and well-worth reading.

Retirement Plan Space “Who will Survive?”

Since the 1st of the year I have been fortunate to interview some of the most prominent people in the Retirement Plan Space–from leading ERISA attorneys and advisors to conference producers, speakers and product suppliers. 

There is recurring  theme…the industry is changing…becoming more regulated and more specialized.   Plan sponsors are demanding more from their advisors, and are doing more due diligence–which directly affects the group handling their retirement plan. 

In the near future, the dabbler in the 401k and 403b space will be extinct.  Consolidation, changing fiduciary roles, liability for plans, and competition by advisors sharpening their credentials will define the marketplace.  Advisors are improving their marketing with more products, providing self-background checks, supplying copies of their corporate insurance policies to show their stability and prove that they can handle the corporate plan better than the competition.  Leading advisors are hosting radio shows on Big Media USA and producing value content as they interview key people in the Retirement Plan Space.
